System Sound is one of Australia’s most recognisable and historic sound companies.
Founded in 1979 by owner and managing director, John Scandrett, System Sound is a company that was, and is built on technical excellence, commitment to quality and technical innovation. Our history spans back to the prolific JC Williamson Theatre Company, were John Scandrett worked as one of Australia’s first theatre sound designers until the company’s eventual collapse in 1978. As a recently graduated physicist with a passion for electronics and as a violinist in a chamber orchestra, John was uniquely skilled to meet the requirements of theatrical sound reinforcement. Over the years which followed, the team he built as the company took on more and more technically ambitious and challenging projects, set System Sound become not just the go to name for high quality theatrical products, but for all events requiring world class sound engineering and infallible commitment to successful productions. By the 2000’s we had designed and or provided sound for hundreds of productions and events, some of which, like The Phantom of the Opera and the Hong Kong Handover of 1997, defined an era of exponential expansion in both technical innovation in sound and the development of live entertainment productions themselves.

System Sound specialises in orchestral sound reinforcement and works with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, KBS Orchestra (Seoul), The Singapore Symphony, Orchestra Victoria, and the Australian Pops Orchestra, The Sydney Opera House, The Arts Centre Melbourne, and other well founded cultural institutions.
Large scale event Sound Design and Engineering projects include the Hong Kong and Macau Handovers, Melbourne’s Milennium New Year’s Eve Celebrations many stadium and outdoor concerts throughout Australia, Asia and New Zealand, with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, and Luciano Pavarotti, and “Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand” for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Arts Festival. Current engagements include the well known Symphony Under The Stars in Hong Kong and A proud and long standing involvement designing and supplying sound to The Production Company; a relationship spanning 20 years.
